A website may be configured to provide content in any number of languages. Any given item may provide content in any of the languages supported by the site. Sitecore item versioning allows an item to have multiple language-specific versions, and a different number of versions between languages.

Switching between language versions is done via the language icon in the item title bar:

The languages defined in Sitecore are shown under the following item:

/sitecore/system/languages

Sitecore provides special tools for managing languages in the Globalization section of the Control Panel. It is more convenient and reliable to use those tools rather than adding or removing items from /sitecore/system/languages.

But before you start to work with the globalization tools, you should know some basic DOs and DONTs.

Refer to this section to learn the basic concepts of working with languages.

The Globalization page is dedicated to working with languages in Sitecore.

This section deals with the Sitecore support of World Lingo.
